We are currently looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with a strong background in optimizing conversational AI systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in deploying and fine-tuning large language models, building scalable NLP pipelines, and improving the efficiency of conversational models in production environments. This role will be instrumental in ensuring our platform’s AI-driven interactions are both fast and reliable for users, including healthcare providers and patients.

Ellipsis Health is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, but we are open to remote candidates for this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

​

• Work on the design and optimization of machine learning pipelines for conversational AI, focusing on reducing latency, improving response time, and increasing system reliability.

• Develop, deploy, and fine-tune NLP models to handle large volumes of interactions, maintaining high accuracy while optimizing for performance.

• Work with engineering teams to design scalable, real-time processing systems for model deployment and management.

• Implement monitoring and analytics for model performance and error analysis, proactively identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.

• Drive innovation through continuous improvement of model architectures, parameter tuning, and training workflows to optimize for healthcare-specific conversational nuances.

REQUIREMENTS

​​

• Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• 5+ years of work experience in machine learning engineering, with a focus on NLP and conversational AI.

• Experience in using and integrating ASR and TTS models within conversational AI pipelines

  • A deep understanding of both speech recognition and synthesis processes is a plus.

• Expertise in optimizing ML pipelines for speed, scalability, and performance in real-time applications, particularly in speech and language processing.

• Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with frameworks like PyTorch.

• Experience in deploying and tuning transformer-based models as well as speech-specific models for ASR and TTS.

• Proficiency with cloud-based ML deployment (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Understanding of the healthcare industry and sensitivity to privacy, compliance, and regulatory considerations in healthcare data (a plus).
